Civil War Experience. The trip to the Battlefields was fascinating and very informative. Our year-old granddaughter planned this trip, and we were so very pleased. Read more. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. Review of: American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. History for youth and adults alike. The combination of an outdoor re-enactment of a period farm and a revolutionary war era encampment provides engaging learning opportunities for adults and children.

Don't miss the flintlock and artillery firing demonstrations. The museum exhibits do a great job explaining the reasons for the growing divide between the colonists and the crown that erupted in war. Many audio and interactive exhibits that children will enjoy but plenty of "heavier" reading for adults wanting to brush up on the history knowledge.

Review of: Fredericksburg Battlefield and Visitor Center. Interesting and informative. Even if you're not a Civil War buff, it's worth spending a couple of hours at this site to watch the orientation film, view the exhibits to learn the context of the battles, and take the short walk around the site. What I liked most was having the ability to spend as much or as little time at a site.

If you love the detail--listen to all of the commentary. Don't need all the details of the battle? You'll enjoy the overview. It's great for the enthusiast or just those looking to learn a bit more about our history.

Review of: Petersburg National Battlefield Park. This is a beautifully maintained national park. It is quite large and divided into three sections. There is a driving tour with parking at each stop. A map provided tells about what happened at these stops.
